Constitution

The document below is the current constitution of City of Knowledge. The constitution was ratified on February 9th, 2019 by the Founding Members to provide a working framework for the organization, focusing on meeting the needs of the community with an emphasis on the needs of our youth. City of Knowledge has taken a unique approach to how an Islamic Center should be able to meet the challenges we face today. Alhamdullilah, this has manifested itself through the variety of services, and the youth friendliness of our programs. With the help of our resident alim, we have been able to expand and complement traditional programs with a set of unique ones such as Family Connections, Coffee with Shaykh, and a robust Sunday school named “Islamic Academy”. During these difficult times, CFK has also strived to provide multiple services to the community such as “Grocery Assistance”, “Career Connections” and “Covid Relief” programs.

These various efforts have been successful with the unique dynamic created by the constitution, where the Resident Alim has an active voice and say in different levels of the organization. A balance and division of responsibilities and authority exists between the Board of Directors (BOD) and the Executive Committee (EC) instead of one body. This is to ensure that one body, the BOD, may focus on the strategy and vision of CFK, while the EC focuses on providing high quality programs and managing the day-to-day activities and services provided to the community. Even within the construction of the Executive Committee, City of Knowledge takes a unique approach by empowering the various directors to make decisions regarding their own field of work. The focus changes away from unnecessary bureaucracy, and instead maximizes time on the various projects being led by City of Knowledge, from Islamic Academy to youth programs to regular programs, and more.

Flexibility was also a key element which was taken into consideration while preparing the constitution. We realize as City of Knowledge grows, so will what we learn about how to better streamline the organization so more value can be delivered to the community. Over the course of the past two years, we have identified areas of improvement, and look forward to implementing those improvements into City of Knowledge with the community. One of these improvements will be communication with our Members on matters concerning Member Affairs.

In the coming months, we will be hosting a session to discuss the constitution and amendments and a 3 week period to hear member questions, comments, suggestions and concerns. Also, a virtual session was held on August 15, 2020 to explain the different elements of the constitution to the community which can be found here: https://fb.watch/2rDiekoLxY/
